"Suzanne, I love my job as a branch supervisor at Portsmouth Public Library because I get the chance to be kind and helpful daily." -- Gwen S., Branch Manager, Wheelersburg Library
"I'm a retired elementary librarian. Loved my job, introducing kids to new, as well as old, stories. I still read a lot of kid-lit. It's great! I retired and got rid of many treasures, but there are some books I will keep till the grave. I've reread many. They are on one IKEA 5-shelf bookshelf. How do I get new titles? Hurst Public Library. No way I could afford, or have a space for the 75 books I read last year. So I'm on my way there tomorrow for another batch." -- Mari M.
"My library has items that you don't expect! You can check out cake pans, sewing machines, American Girl dolls and passes to local museums. When my children graduated from high school, I checked out the graduation hat cake pan. I have also checked out family passes to the botanical gardens, zoo, Cowtown Museum and the Cosmosphere Museum. I loved taking my kids to the library and now my daughter works there." -- Sheryl J.
"Hey Suzanne, I work in a library system in Cape may NJ and I absolutely love how community based we are! The number of patrons who come in for programs, to use the computers or just to have a safe haven to read or study or whatever is such a great service to be able to provide. Seeing so many different people getting so many different uses from the library is a true testament to how needed all libraries are to the health of the population. You gotta love the library! Thanks," -- Diane from Cape May County Library
"I love Love LOVE My library. It makes my day. I am talking about the Hennepin county library in Minnesota." -- Suzanne K.
"I've been working in libraries for about ten years. And in celebration of National Library Week, I've been looking back on all the wonderful librarians who helped to make me the librarian I am today. The one who gave me book suggestions (and taught me it was okay to not like everything); the ones who made the library a happy, friendly, and welcoming place; the one who let me have first dibs on new books before they went on the shelves; the one who taught me everything I know about rare books; the ones who trained me and offered their friendship, mentorship, and support; and the one who made me realize that this was a viable career that I could do for the rest of my life. I like to think that I still would have become a librarian, even if I wasn't surrounded by amazing examples, but to be honest, I'm not entirely sure. I guess I'm glad that I never had to find the answer to that question. I'm the librarian I am today because of all the support and love that I have gotten from all the librarians in my past. What a blessing they all have been!" -Erin M.
