Dear Reader,
The desire is there, but sometimes I feel overwhelmed when I think about starting a new project, so I break it up into manageable pieces. If you haven't entered this year's Write a DearReader Contest, because just thinking about it gives you the jitters, I have calming news for you. If you write 216 words (Friday), then 216 more words Saturday, and another 216 words Sunday, you'll have written enough to make a column, with two words to spare. (Entries can be no more than 650 words, but of course your entry can be less than that.)
If you have trouble starting, just start typing and say anything. The key is to 'not' stop typing, because if you keep going, eventually the words you really want to say will appear on the screen...
'Suzanne said I should just start to type, but I don't know what to say, but I'm going to keep going, I feel stupid just typing gibberish on the screen, but I'll keep going what is on my mind well I'm not sure but I do know the guy behind me in the line at the supermarket was really rude to people he was commenting on what people had in their carts and what he was saying wasn't a compliment and it reminded me of the time...'
And there you have it. The topic for your column. Now simply write your story.
The absolute deadline for an entry is Monday, October 4th at midnight. So if you type 216 words Friday, Saturday and Sunday, you'll have Monday to reread your entry and put the finishing touches on it. I'm waiting to read your entry, so start typing today.
