Dear Reader,
When I went outside early this morning, instead of at the curb, my green and yellow recycle can was neatly placed way back on my driveway. I smiled, because immediately I knew why it was sitting there. "Thank You" cards come in all shapes and sizes and the placement of my garbage can this morning was definitely the most unusual Thank You gesture I've ever received.
Tuesday is garbage day in our neighborhood. I'm always up by 6 a.m. drinking coffee and reading the paper, and I love the fresh air coming in, so I have the door open. It's quiet early in the morning, so it's easy to hear the roar of the first garbage truck turning the corner onto my street at 6:30. Like clockwork, 15 minutes later the garbage truck will be pulling up in front of my house. So it's always been easy for me to "cookie" the guys driving the truck. I frequently treat them to a bag of my chocolate chip cookies. Every week they look for the woman still in her pajamas and robe, waving and holding a bag of cookies.
But the recycling truck that comes to our neighborhood isn't as timely. I'm never quite sure when it's going to show up. So I haven't been able to "cookie" them, that is until last week. I just happened to be outside when I heard their truck at the end of my street, so I ran into the house, grabbed a bag of cookies and handed them to the guys driving the truck. No doubt about it, they loved the chocolate chip cookies.
"Thank Yous" come in all shapes and sizes, even recycle garbage cans.
Thanks for reading with me. It's so good to read with friends.
