Dear Reader,
Oh nobody knows the trouble I've seen and I'm not sure that I want to tell them about it either--because sometimes they kill the messenger. I don't like to give people bad news even about mistakes that can be corrected because my "good deed" can turn ugly, fast.
A business associate was showing me a bid he'd put together for a customer, and I noticed there was a mistake in his addition--one that would be quite costly to him. It made me sick to my stomach when I saw it, so I could only imagine how he would feel if I told him about it. But how could I not?
You did know that sometimes people mistakenly confuse the person who brings the bad news, with the bad news, didn't you?
It did not go well. Okay, I guess it went as well as one could expect. I mean what did I think he was going to do, shower me with thanks and be forever grateful? No, he looked at me with that, 'Oh no, I wanna die look in his eyes,' and I think at that very minute he intended to take me with him.
I can only hope that years later when he's telling the, 'I remember' story about what happened on that dreadful day, the dutiful messenger--that's me--is not still attached to the bad news, but instead is now a hero.
Thanks for reading with me. It's so good to read with friends.
