Dear Reader,
It's the perfect volunteer job for me. I've been making 50 phone calls everyday for the Senior Friendship Center, checking in on seniors to make sure they're able to get groceries and other essentials. Many of the people I reach, I can put their name under the OKAY list on the report I turn into my supervisor at the center. But some of the people, when I ask, "Are you able to get groceries and other essentials?" there's a long pause on the other end of the phone, and many times I hear, "I'm in trouble."
Hearing the situation some people are in, and the needs they have, my first thought is to bag up some groceries from my pantry and head on over to their house. But as my supervisor told me when I started volunteering, "Suzanne, it's difficult sometimes, but it's better not to get personally involved with folks you call. If we all do our part, yours is to call and find out people's needs, then send me an email with the information, working together, we will successfully help people in need."
When I read about people with the COVID-19 virus, unemployment, people not being able to pay their rent, businesses who probably won't ever be able to financially open their doors again, it all makes me feel overwhelmed. It's so much bigger than me. What could I possibly do to help fix the problem?
And that's when I remind myself of my supervisor's reassuring words... "If we all do our part..." whatever that might be... "we will successfully help people in need."
Thanks for reading with me. It's so good to read with friends.

TAKEN WITH YOU (Fiction) by Carrie Ann Ryan
I love being able to give characters a second chance. Beckham and Meadow hide from their pasts for good reason. They made the wrong choice years ago and are just now finding peace with their new lives. Now it's time for them to find peace with each other--and a perhaps find romance along the way. Finally.
