Dear Reader,
Some things just can't be explained, you have to experience them yourself.
When Bailey, my granddaughter, was visiting a few weeks ago we went to her favorite clothing store. It's become a tradition. We've always been treated to great service, but on our last visit, we experienced amazing, over-the-top attention. The clerk helped us put together outfits we never could have envisioned on our own. As we were saying "Thank you" on our way out the door I added, "Bailey and I are going to be baking, don't be surprised if we drop off some cookies."
So a few days later Bailey and I were putting homemade chocolate chip cookies in a gift bag and she wrote a note to the clerk. Bailey said I should come in with her when she delivered the cookies, but I insisted she go alone. "I want you to experience the feeling of handing someone a bag of cookies. Something special happens. I can't explain, but you'll understand the magic soon."
When Bailey returned, "Grandma, you won't believe it!" she was so excited. "When I gave the woman who helped us the cookies she was practically crying. Her birthday is tomorrow."
And that's some of the magic of gratitude. Some things can't be explained, you have to experience them yourself.
It feels a little strange sometimes, even to me, when I decide to give cookies to someone I don't know. But then I think back to the last time, and the magic of gratitude makes me feel so excited and away I go.
"Hi there, I baked today and I thought about you. Thank you for..."
Be sure to enter today's Chocolate Chip Cookie giveaway. I'll be baking for three book club readers. You can eat the cookies yourself or feel free to give some away. If your name is drawn, cookies will show up on your doorstep soon. To enter the drawing, and see photos of past winners, click here.
Thanks for reading with me. It's so good to read with friends.
