Dear Reader,
My friend, who has a debilitating disease, said to me, "If there is a God, Suzanne, you are one of His angels." I was so touched. Her sentiments made me stop and think about other occasions when I've been deemed an angel. It wasn't because of some outstanding deed, no, it was simply offering a few kind words, turning on my electric bubble machine for everyone walking by my house to share, or giving someone a big bag of homemade cookies--just because.
One of this year's Honorable Mention entries Trail Angels, written by Stacey Somppi in the Write a DearReader Contest inspired readers to write...
"Suzanne, today's column about Trail Angels is inspiring. I'm doing errands today and I will look for an opportunity to do an act of kindness. Thank you." -- Val
"Suzanne, it is not often that a column touches me in such a way that tears come to my eyes, but [Trail Angels] did. It got me to thinking about all of the people who pass through my life, working in a public setting, and with my work in community theater. Each moment is one that gives you an opportunity to be an Angel of Life. You never know how important small acts of kindness can be to another person. Focus this season on small acts of kindness. Maybe you could make it one of your columns to have others talk about small acts of kindness this holiday season. I am sure you will find that many people have a story to tell there. Simple acts of kindness, that is all it takes sometimes to be an Angel of Life." -- Tess C., Public Services Librarian
Yes, there are angels all around us. The saying goes "Every time a bell rings an angel gets their wings." But it could be, "Every time a good deed is done, another angel is born."
Encounters with angels this holiday season? I'd love to hear about them. You can reach me at: [email protected]
Thanks for reading with me. It's so good to read with friends.
Happy Holidays,

WOUND TIGHT (Fiction) by Lorelei James
It's fun to pair two unlikely characters together, especially after I've had readers ask--what ever happened to...? Callie Morgan appeared as a precocious 4-yr-old in Long Hard Ride; Justin Donohue's brother married his ex-girlfriend in All Jacked Up. Years have passed, now Callie is all grown up. When she meets Justin, she doesn't see the age difference between them, she sees a hot former bullrider who needs to let loose--and she's happy to unwind him completely.
