Dear Reader,
New and old holiday traditions. Book club reader, Tess, shares her thoughts. I'd love to hear about your traditions and so would other readers. Please take a minute and tell me yours.
Tess says:
"Suzanne, this year, my husband and I dropped the ball on decorations. We have no tree, no lights, and no decorations inside or outside of our house. We have been so busy and decided that, since we will be traveling through the entire Christmas season, there was no need to go out of the way to decorate. That is not to say, that we are lacking in Christmas spirit. We are still looking forward to some holiday traditions and as we travel to and fro.
I have a few favorite holiday traditions. One is at my in-laws house. I do community theater, so I am no stranger to singing and being goofy in public. All of my in-laws and my husband, also do community theater with me. We are sort of one big theater family. Every year my husband's parents throw a big, holiday party called the Carolfest. We get together and sip mulled wine, hot apple cider, eggnog and homemade hot chocolate. We eat holiday goodies, share in the spirit of Christmas and, of course, sing carols around the piano. It has become one of my favorite holiday traditions. We do pretty decent caroling, even after imbibing in libations, because most of us do theater too.
This year, some friends of ours are coming to the [Carolfest] for the first time, and bringing their three month old twins. We are hoping to start a new tradition of coming to the Carolfest with them, while enjoying it as an established tradition of our own.
I think it would be fun to see what holiday traditions other readers have. I bet you would get a plethora of responses. Maybe this year you can try sharing one of your own traditions with someone new, just as I am doing. It might be a good way to mix the old traditions and start new ones."--Tess C.
