Dear Reader,
"That's a great song," I told my hairdresser. I was listening to music that was being piped into the salon. "I remember when I first heard that song, I was in a hotel room in New York City. I'd just sold my book and my agent sent me back to my hotel room to wait for him. I remember singing along with this song and dancing around the hotel room."
My hairdresser smiled, "You know, I used to always be singing along with the music while I was doing someone's hair. I didn't even realize I was singing until someone would point it out to me. It made me feel happy. I don't know why I don't sing and dance around the room anymore. I miss that person who sang and danced to the music. I need to find my joy again."
One of the ways I find my joy is by turning on an electric bubble machine in the front of my house. I've been blowing bubbles for over five years. I'm still amazed that such a little thing like bubbles can bring so much joy to me and the people who walk and drive by my house. But every day the walkers and joggers are dancing in front of my house and yelling out, "Bubbles! bubbles! Thank you for the bubbles."
I get cards in the mail addressed to "The Bubble Lady" and people leave bottles of bubbles out in front of my house. Some folks even knock on my door, like the mother and daughter who stopped the other day. The little girl was shy, but she smiled and handed me a big bottle of bubbles and a card she had obviously made and scripted herself. "Have a happy bubble life from: Atussa."
So the day after my hair appointment I stopped by my hairdresser's shop, and left a big bottle of bubbles and a hand-held, battery operated bubble blower. My note read: "I hope this helps you find your joy!"
And I think it was a good start because later in the day I got a text: "I love this bubble machine. I'm dancing and blowing bubbles."
