Dear Reader,
Getting to know the real me--it's been my most challenging task so far in life. I try to be polite, generous, funny, a good friend, mother, grandmother and wife, but there's also a list of things I don't like about myself. Things I'd like to change. Instantly--would be ideal.
I desperately want change to happen instantly, because the middle part of solving a problem or changing something about my personality is emotionally draining. Which wouldn't be a problem, if I could run away from 'me' while I'm waiting. (Getting on a plane and taking a mini vacation to the Smoky Mountains sounds real good about now.) But unfortunately, making a change requires me to stick around and wade through the emotional muck, because I'm the problem.
It reminds me of when my kids were little, and all four of them got head lice at the same time. Guess who got it too? As I was leaning over the bathtub, washing my hair with the special lice shampoo and the bugs were falling out into the tub, I wanted to run away then, too. But no matter where I went, the head lice problem hitched a ride until the special shampoo had time to work, and it did. But I had to wait.
So, here I sit once again (the good news is no head lice this time), just simply a lady-in-waiting, waiting for a little personal change to happen in her life.
Thanks for reading with me. It's so good to read with friends.
