Dear Reader,
The first book that made me love reading was Favorite Poems: Old and New by Helen Ferris. My favorite poem in the book is "The Monkeys and the Crocodile." My brother-in-law reads at my grandson's school every week, and he's taking my book in next week (the book that doesn't have a cover any more) to share with the class.
Thanks for sharing with me the books that first made you love reading. Here are some of your favorites...
"The book that made me love reading was A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. I was nine years old and my brother dared me to read it. He said I would be too scared to read it because it had ghosts in it. I haven't stopped reading since."--Aimee W.
"Suzanne, the first book that made me love reading was Nancy Drew, The Secret in the Old Clock. My granny read it with me the summer after first grade. She had been a teacher, and I wasn't learning to read fast enough, so she spent all summer reading with me, and it worked! I will always remember that summer spent with my grandmother and the books we read together. Some of my best days ever..."--Rebecca A.
"The book that took me to an entirely different world when I was a child was The Secret Garden. When Mary starts digging and weeding in the locked garden--such promise for change bloomed in my heart. I still remember that moment."--Cheryl P.
