Dear Reader,
Carol, a reader at the book club, shouts "Yikes and double yikes!"
"Suzanne: Just had to weigh in on the Chocolate Torte recipe you shared. YIKES AND DOUBLE YIKES!! I've belonged to Weight Watchers for many, many years and let me tell you this recipe would cause sheer terror in the hearts of the folks at Weight Watchers. One piece of this definitely delicious torte would ruin anyone's point count for days. My question is: Tell me how you are going to handle having this simply calorie-packed torte in the house? You obviously have a method you've developed over the years, and I want to know what it is. I'll forever be grateful."--Carol M.
(Suzanne replies:) Yes, I have learned a secret over the years about how to avoid eating everything I bake. First confession, willpower has nothing to do with it. Fortunately--when it comes to baking--I have a digestive disorder which prevents me from eating too many sweets. But the real secret is that I give away most of what I bake. In fact I find so much joy in giving away things I've baked that I don't have the need to eat any of it.
Not too many people have the time to bake anymore. So for no particular reason, I'll knock on a neighbor's door, "I baked today and thought you might like a treat." No one has ever turned me away. I frequently stop by businesses and drop off some baked goods to an owner, or employee who was delightful when I was in their shop. And of course I share my baking with book club readers every month when I feature my Chocolate Chip Cookie Giveaway.
And speaking of the Chocolate Chip Cookie Giveaway, it's time for me to bake for some lucky readers and ship the chocolaty delights Priority Mail to your door. If you've never tasted my cookies, today's the day to enter the Chocolate Chip Cookie Giveaway. Go to: http://www.emailbookclub.com/photo/form_cookie.html
I'm ready to bake. Are you ready to dunk chocolate chip cookies?
Thanks for reading with me. It's so good to read with friends.
* Remember, like Carol's email above, if I've used your email in a column in the past week, send me your shipping address and as a thank you, I'll send you a free book.

AUTHORBUZZ: LIAR'S BENCH (Fiction) by Kim Michele Richardson
My new novel is full of heart and soul, but it also tackles big, important issues like racism and bigotry. I think it has a little something for everyone: a family drama, a love story, a murder mystery, a coming-of-age story, and a social commentary. Ultimately, I hope Liar's Bench becomes an important message of mankind's slight, but steady triumphs over prejudices and racial injustice.
