Dear Reader,
The UPS delivery person set the box on our doorstep, rang the bell, and soon my husband was ripping open the package. After he unrolled the bubble wrap off the goodies, he proudly announced. "Look at these!" he was so excited. "We have six new ones now, and they're each a different color! Aren't they great? Look at these bright colors!" Holding them with two hands, six kitty litter scoopers were fanned and arched in a pooper scooper rainbow.
I can't even begin to describe the huge smile on his face, and I didn't want to burst the excitement of his pooper scooper bubble. But I admit I was taken aback, because I didn't really know if I could muster up such joy about new kitty litter scoopers, even though I had to admit they were quite colorful.
"Yes, dear. those are some great scoopers. We need two new ones, and now we'll have four in reserve for scooper emergencies."
My husband arranged the new scoopers in a groovy, flower power 70's design in the middle of the dining room table. The handles all met in the center and the slotted scooper tops formed a huge flower circle. I assumed he wanted to display them in case company stopped by and he could do a little show-and-tell. For two days I walked by those new pooper scoopers. I was beginning to be a little concerned, wondering how long the scoopers were going to take center stage as the dining room table centerpiece. But then again, what was the harm? Eventually he'd have to take down the display and replace the two broken ones we were using now. Or would he?
Day three, and when I poured my morning coffee and sat down to read the paper, there were the pooper scoopers to keep me company. I don't know if it was the fact that I hadn't finished drinking my coffee and I wasn't quite awake, but I found myself thinking those pooper scoopers were indeed delicious looking colors. Delicious? Come on Suzanne, and that's when I realized there was no turning back. I'd bought a ticket on the crazy pooper scooper train, and in my mind it just left the station.
