Dear Reader,
Monday's column took a reader at the book club down memory lane. What a delightful email. Thanks for sending it, Linda.
"Suzanne, my older brother had a red plaid shirt he wore whenever spaghetti was on the menu, as any spills would just not show on this amazing plaid. It was known in the family as 'Jerry's Spaghetti Shirt,' and when he passed away last year and my nephew was casting around for something special to send to me in his memory, he spotted the shirt in the closet (they just couldn't throw or give it away), and decided it was just the thing. My nephew made a little pillow, complete with tassels on the corners, and a big button in the middle, and it arrived at my home as a surprise with the explanation attached. My boxer, Bella has since eaten one of the tassels, but I still cherish the spaghetti shirt pillow made from my brother's shirt.
Perhaps one day one of your grandsons will make a little pillow for someone who loved you from one of your food-stained shirts, and it will bring fond memories of you wherever it goes.
With love, and remembering my brother because of your column today."
