Dear Reader,
I'm just a little bit strange. If you've read my column for any length of time I'm sure you've picked up on that by now, and for some reason you've decided to keep reading anyway. The strange stuff about me, things I do that would make some people blush with embarrassment--like blowing bubbles on Main Street, pitching a tent in my yard and leaving it there for a week because for some reason it made me feel good, making yarn pot holders from a children's kit, or inviting friends to a Pajama Dinner party--these strange behaviors are why my life is never boring.
I don't always understand why I need to do these little crazy things, but I do know they bring me a lot of joy. When I find myself thinking, 'Oh, I couldn't do that, it would be embarrassing,' or, 'What would people think?' those are cues that I need to get ready. Because acting on those crazy little thoughts, is where I discover the most joy in my life...
My 7-year-old grandson and I were baking dark chocolate cupcakes and we'd just finished putting the pans in the oven and setting the timer.
"Let's dance!" I announced, and I grabbed a hold of my grandson's hand.
You should have seen the look in his eyes. Watching me glide and twist around the kitchen, I'm certain he was thinking, 'Grandma's lost her mind.'
"Try this one," I told him. "We used to do the Twist." Grandma's hips were twisting back and forth to the beat. My grandson smiled, his cheeks turned a little red, but soon both of us were "twisting the night away" until the kitchen timer--dinged!
Yes, Grandma's just a little bit strange, and hopefully her grandson will grow up that way, too.
Thanks for reading with me. It's so good to read with friends.
