Thank you author Jennifer Estep, for sharing your time and talents at the book club today. What a gift to us...
First of all, I have to say thanks to Suzanne for hosting me on her blog today. I appreciate it.
So we are deep into the holiday season now. If you're like me, you still need a few last-minute gifts for the folks on your shopping list.
One of my favorite things about the holidays is buying gifts for my friends and family members. A bottle of wine, a box of chocolates, some scented candles, a gift certificate to a favorite restaurant. Just a nice little treat that I hope my friend or family member will enjoy and that lets that person know that I'm thinking about them.
But more often than not, books are my gifts of choice.
Why? Well, for one thing, they are extremely easy to wrap. Just kidding. Okay, not really.
Westerns, mysteries, spy thrillers, romances, fantasies, graphic novels. I've given books in those genres and more. All year long, I'll make notes about books that I hear about. As the holiday season approaches, I'll check out those books and see if they might be a good fit for someone on my holiday shopping list. Then, there are the impulse buys--the books that I pick up in the store or click on online because the cover, title, or description catches my eye.
And, of course, I ask for books myself. To me, there's nothing better than unwrapping a new book, opening the cover, and being transported to another world for a few hours, whether it's a fantasy kingdom full of magic and monsters, a frontier town in the Old West, or the shadowy headquarters of a secret spy group.
And you know what the best part is? When my friend or family member tells me how much he enjoyed the book--that it made him laugh or smile or completely captivated him and that he's looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I think that the gift of books is one of the best presents of all. Chocolate is a close second, though.
What about you guys? Do you buy books for the folks on your shopping list? E-mail me at jennifer@jenniferestep.com and let me know which books are on your holiday wish list. I'm giving away five copies of my newest book, The Spider.
Happy reading and happy holidays!
