Dear Reader,
Living in the moment is a good match for me, otherwise I'd constantly be looking down the road waiting to "get" somewhere, and I'd miss the joys of life that are here--right now--this very minute. The exception to that personal adage, is when I'm feeling burdened and trying to solve a problem. Then, thinking about something fun, in the future, is my "magic pill." Before I tackle the problem, I think about the upcoming fun I'm looking forward to, and then it makes problem solving a lot easier to bear.
My current "magic pill" is envisioning spending Thanksgiving and Christmas with family. Company's coming! I'm excited! Not only do I get to spend time with family I only see once or twice a year, my linen closet gets organized, walls get touch-up paint, the seal around the kitchen sink is replaced, my husband organized our carriage house where we store this and that (we live in a 1925 home), recycled and gave away things we hadn't used in a year and forgot we even owned, and my husband just finished hanging pictures back on the wall (we painted our living and dining room four months ago, but didn't get around to putting things back).
What a rewarding feeling to cross things off the company's coming list. But I must confess for the past few days as my husband crosses things off his "to-do" list, additional tasks mysteriously continue to fill up the page. (wink-wink)
Of course company can come to visit without doing all of these things, but it's become a tradition. Company coming is our motivation to attend to all those little things we've been meaning to do.
