Dear Reader,
When I was a kid I wished my mom or dad would have walked up to me and simply said, "I'm proud of you Suzanne." No strings attached. It would have been so comforting and reassuring to know they were in my corner--no matter what.
Maybe you're supposed to outgrow the need to hear someone say "I'm proud of you," and in a way I have, because now I can say the words to myself and it's enough. But then again, it's still a big deal and means a lot when I hear those words from someone, even today. Especially when my husband says he's proud of me, I'm glowing.
My Grandpa Hale didn't have to say a word to let me know how proud he was of me. Every afternoon when he got home from driving the gas truck for the county road crews, after he got cleaned up, he'd settle in to watch the Tom and Jerry cartoon show. (Maybe that's where I get my quirky side from?) It was Grandpa's way of letting down after a long day. Together we'd sit side-by-side on the sofa. Grandpa would look at me and smile, while gently patting his hand on my knee. Yes, I knew my grandpa was proud of me.
I guess maybe I'm thinking about all of this lately, because I spend so much time with my grandchildren and I want to be mindful of opportunities to let them know how proud I am of them--no strings attached.
Thanks for reading with me. It's so good to read with friends.

AUTHORBUZZ: GOOD AS GONE (Thriller) by Doug Corleone
The first book in my new international thriller series featuring former U.S. Marshal Simon Fisk. Still haunted by the disappearance of his own daughter years ago, Simon must track down a young girl abducted from her parents' hotel room in Paris. The trail takes him across the continent, through Europe's ritziest nightclubs and seediest back alleys, into a terrifying world of international intrigue and dark corners of his past he'd rather leave well alone.
