Dear Reader,
Hurricane or tropical storm? I don't know for sure if Hurricane Isaac, or a tropical storm came to visit on Monday here in Sarasota, Florida, because I'm writing this column in advance. I've lived in Sarasota for 19 years, so this isn't my first hurricane rodeo. Today I'm shopping for water, batteries, cat food, canned goods, and filling up gasoline cans so if I lose power I can start the generator. Some folks ignore the hurricane warning and go about their routines as usual. Me, I like to be prepared--just in case.
"Just in case" has always been my M.O., and it's a good one when I'm preparing for a hurricane. But not-so-much when I'm getting ready to go on vacation (Ah, how I wish I were packing for a vacation today.), because I'm one of those people who over pack for every trip. I'm one of the people you see in the hotel lobby lugging three huge suitcases behind them, "just in case." Because who knows? You never know what you'll need. It might rain, or get chilly and I'll need a sweater, and better yet, I should pack three sweaters, so for certain I'll have one to match any outfit, and shoes--don't get me going--I can pack six pair for a simple weekend getaway.
Hmm, I've gotten off course from Hurricane Isaac to dreaming of going on vacation. (But I guess everyone needs a little diversion in times of stress.) I'll let you know how I fared and I do hope that none of you are in the path of the hurricane. But if you are, please remember when you're preparing, that it never hurts to buy that extra bottle of water--just in case.
Stay safe and sound and joyful.
Thanks for reading with me. It's so good to read with friends.
