Dear Reader,
There's excitement in our household. Hadley Elizabeth Beecher is due to arrive September 15th. Long legs, just like her mother (not me, my daughter-in-law), a full head of hair, and we even know the exact measurement from her elbow to the tips of her fingers. Ultrasounds tell all these days. Yet, all the fancy technology will never steal the show. Even after giving birth to two children of my own, and experiencing the birth of four grandchildren, I am amazed. Amazed that Hadley Elizabeth is tucked inside, safe and sound, waiting to say hello to the world. Waiting to bake cookies with her grandmother.
My son Brian, and his wife Amber weren't planning on any more children, but following in her father's footsteps, "Surprise!" Hadley has showed up in spite of "almost" guaranteed precautions. This isn't the first surprise we've had in our family. Thirty-three years ago, Brian was a one-in-a-million surprise, considering my husband had the procedure to permanently take care of things. Surprises are exciting, but the thought of getting up for 2 a.m. feedings again can be a little overwhelming. So I've reminded Amber not to worry, this grandma still knows how to rock a baby to sleep.
One surprise led to another this past weekend. Baby showers are normally reserved for the first baby, but a friend decided that a surprise baby called for a surprise baby shower--especially since Brian and Amber only have boys. I couldn't resist sharing the photos, and you can see the surprise I found on Craigslist for Hadley--and Grandma. We'll look picture-perfect strolling down the street.

Thanks for reading with me. It's so good to read with friends.

AUTHORBUZZ: CASCADE (Fiction) by Maryanne O'Hara
Did any childhood memory haunt you? For me, it was visiting a reservoir and being told, "towns once existed under those waters." I wrote Cascade, about a 1930s artist who is struggling between duty and desire, bound by promises she's made to a new husband, to her dying father, and to her threatened town.
