Dear Reader,
One of the nicest things about going on vacation is being missed. The day after my husband and I got home from visiting the Smoky Mountains, ring, ring, "Hello, Grandma!" Paul, our 4 year-old grandson was on the other end of the line. He'd asked his mother to dial our number.
"Grandma, I missed you. What are you doing?" I knew Paul was hoping for an invitation to come over, but my husband and I had flown in late the night before, so we were still pretty tired.
"I missed you, too, Paul. We'll have you over soon, okay?"
"Soon," to an exhausted grandma means in a couple of days--at least. But "soon" to a four-year-old grandson and his two-year-old brother James, means something entirely different. Soon, means "real" soon. The boys must have been bugging their mother every hour, on the hour, because the next day when the phone rang, it was my daughter-in-law, "I know you guys are tired, but I was wondering if I could bring the boys by after they get out of school. They really missed you--a lot--and they're dying to see you--soon."
So of course my husband and I told our daughter-in-law to bring our grandsons over after school, and be sure to give the boys our love, and let them know that we're looking forward to seeing them "real soon!"
* Vacation photos, vacation giveaways, including the book Who Pooped in the Park--coming in my column, "soon."
Thanks for reading with me. It's so good to read with friends.
