Dear Reader,
The week before a vacation, it's a ritual, I lug two suitcases out of storage and begin a seven-day try-on session. Trying on clothes, mixing and matching, not only to see what I want to take with me, but to see what I'm missing--what I need to shop for--hopefully something. Shoes, a shirt, or skirt, pants, shorts, anything will do. It just doesn't seem like I'm going to be properly styled for vacation, unless I buy some new clothes.
My husband and I are vacationing in the Smoky Mountains and it gets chilly at night this time of year, so I'm going to need long pants. Since I live in Florida, and haven't worn long pants since last January or February, I'd better try on them on. (Secretly, I'm hoping they don't fit, so I can buy new ones.) One, two, three, four, each pair of old pants I try on and model for my husband, "How do these look?"
He says, "They're cute!" adding, "They make you look sexy and petite." He doesn't know it, but he's not being supportive. It's not what I want to hear. Complimenting me on one, or even two pairs of pants, I could live with, but telling me that all four pairs of pants make me look gorgeous. What is he thinking? Now I have to cross pants off of my shopping list.
Try on after try on, it didn't matter whether it was tops, shorts, jackets; I even resorted to trying on nightgowns, "You look gorgeous." Boy, my husband can be so irritating at times!
The only things left in my closet that I haven't modeled for my husband are my shoes. And I'm no idiot. I think I'll skip that fashion runway and head straight to the store.
I'm so excited about our vacation and every day for the next two weeks a different author will be filling in for me, including the winners of this year's Write a Dear Reader Contest. Be sure to send an email and say hello to my guest authors. They'd love to hear from you and they'll be answering all of their mail.
Thanks for reading with me. It's so good to read with friends.
