Dear Reader,
I'm a believer that if I dream, eventually my dreams will come true. But it's the preparation that's always been the hardest part; the desire to want something to happen, to really believe it can happen, and then finally announce, "I'm ready." But dreams do still come true.
When I homeschooled our son (who's now 33 years old), I also taught a cooking class, twice a week, to six other homeschoolers and I loved it. Three years ago, when I started thinking about cooking with kids, I decided it was time to begin again. But when I researched the idea, it got way too complicated. In today's world you have to be fingerprinted, get a background check, put up your house for collateral--by the time you finish jumping through all the hoops--the joy is gone. So I gave up the idea, deciding I was still living in the easy-going days of small town Cuba City (population 2,000), where I grew up.
But last week, this naive, small town girl's dream came true when the assistant director at Primrose School (where Paul, my four-year-old grandson attends), called and asked if I'd like to teach cooking classes to the kids. "I know you pick up your grandson from school every week to bake with him, and I've read your book, Muffins and Mayhem where you talked about cooking with kids. I think you'd be perfect!"
So I've been making lesson plans for 25 students, ages 5 to 8, and in March I'll be teaching my first class, "All About Eggs." Yes, dreams do still come true, and mine are beginning with cracking, separating and making deviled eggs.
Thanks for reading with me. It's so good to read with friends.
