Dear Reader,
My brother-in-law is coming to visit again this year for Thanksgiving. His plane lands next Tuesday, so I've been busy getting things ready for a house guest. But today I realized that I'm going a little overboard, buying-in to the idea that everything has to be completely in-order, spiffed-up, and ready-to-go before he arrives. I loved his visit last year, was sad to see him leave and I guess as a way of showing how much his visit means to me, I'm trying to create a Norman Rockwell experience.
But cooking and organizing things around the house, my brother-in-law seemed to enjoy helping my husband and me last year and felt right at home. While the three of us chopped apples, rolled pie crusts and moved furniture to make room for the extra table and chairs, we talked about our lives, shared "remember when" stories and painted memories that we'll revisit year-after-year.
I'm sure my brother-in-law's visit will feel too short again this year and I'll be sad to see him go. But this time he'll be taking more than memories home, because I made a quilt for him. A warm and cozy reminder of how much he's loved and it's on the guest bed waiting to greet him.
Thanks for reading with me. It's so good to read with friends.
