Dear Reader,
Thanks for taking the time to email. Reading your notes is my favorite part of the day.
"Suzanne, I loved Kathy's idea of making your 'Whoops! Banana Bread' in a jar--what an excellent gift idea for the holidays, a housewarming, etc. Do you have any idea how long the bread will last in the jars? I'm assuming for quite a while, but would appreciate knowing for sure. I'd like to make some for Christmas gifts, but I don't know how far in advance I can do so.
I hope your family is well despite the tragedy of the fire. I have been praying for all of you on a daily basis."--Lisa Nesbitt
(Suzanne replies:) Fifty percent of how food tastes is visual. I didn't ask Kathy, but in my mind the canning jar is merely a decorative way to present the banana bread. I'm planning on making the bread one or two days before I give the gift, and keep it in the refrigerator in-between. The nice thing about the recipe (on page 84 in my book) is that you can make the banana bread when you need it in small batches. "Dear Suzanne, I am mailing my copy of your book Muffins and Mayhem to my mom today--it will be part of her 79th birthday gift. The other half is a box of See's Dark Chocolate Rum Raisin candy. What's better than fine chocolate and a good read?! It may be bad of me, but I read your book before sending it off to her! A used gift you might say, but Mom and I enjoy sharing as much as anything so, I don't think she will mind. My daughter suggested I open the chocolates and take one out, then write that I couldn't resist! Ha! I didn't do that but, I did share the tale with my mom. To make a long story short--as I wrote the letter to my mom about you and the bookclub (which she has heard about many times before) and that Muffins and Mayhem was a book you had written, I realized that I consider you a friend. We have never met but, you give me everything a girlfriend provides and I wanted to tell you that and thank you. I truly enjoyed your book and I love your bookclub." --Sandi
"Good morning Suzanne, I enjoyed reading your column this morning! I'm so sorry to hear about [the fire at] your son's house, but am so glad to see that after the clean up and short mourning period, you've bounced back to enjoying your life. You are truly an inspiration to all! Enjoy your day! Thanks for the autographed book plate and bookmark for your book! So cool..."--Daphne
There's still time to order an autographed bookplate, bookmark and personalized letter if you're giving Muffins and Mayhem as a holiday gift, (with or without the banana bread). Go to: http://www.muffinsandmayhem.com:80/node/17092
