Audrey on Dear Reader Column 1-22-07

Suzanne, I love this advice. The "perhaps approach" is listed as one of my resolutions this year. Life is too short to be in a fowl mood, even for a moment.
Take a deep breath (some times two) and put yourself in that person's place. Where would any of us be with out the patience of someone else?

Daphne

Dear Suzanne,

You have described me to a tee. I also grew up in a black and white household and have spent most my life as a "quick-to-judge" person. Just recently I was reading Elizabeth George's book "Loving God With All Your Mind" and her simple trick of not letting your mind to play tricks on you by judging people and situations before you know what the real truth is, is just that! Focus on what is TRUE and REAL; taken directly from the bible verse Philippians 4:8 which states, "...Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." This one simple verse has taught me so much tolerance and patience with other people, and has kept my mind from wandering off into "judgmental land". I just wanted to share my little tip with you and the other readers. I do so appreciate your "Dear Reader" column...your fun and interesting stories always make me smile!

Thanks for reading with me.

Daphne
