Dear Reader,
I know it's going to be a good book when the first page starts out with a recipe: Olivia's Bet-the-Farm Ham and Cheese Muffins. Read another chapter and it's time for Daniel's Spent-a-Mint Chocolate Brownies, and after Chapter Three, get ready to make Jake's Fast-and-Easy Chocolate Trifle.
Even if you don't enjoy time in the kitchen, you'll enjoy reading Shirley Jumps' romantic comedy, The Bachelor Preferred Pastry. Love is on the menu in this pocket paperback that will slide right into your beach bag this summer.
I'm not looking for a man, (I've already got a keeper) but I'm always looking for an interesting recipe, and Olivia's When-Among-Tigers Striped Pound Cake definitely got my attention.
I can picture this pound cake sitting on a picnic table at a summer barbeque and it's guaranteed to get people talking, and who knows maybe get a man, if you're looking. The ingredients: 10 eggs, 3 1/3 cups sugar, a pound of butter, flour, baking powder, vanilla, some chocolate and whoa, I ended up with the biggest pound cake I'd ever seen. Bake it for 1 hour and 45 minutes, yes that's right. I even called the author to make sure it wasn't a misprint. It's the most unusual cake I've ever made, but I guess if you're trying to catch a man you've got to stand out from the crowd.
