Dear Reader,
Call me stupid. Say I'm naive. It's fine with me. I was thinking about this the other day when I offered a suggestion to someone, and they rolled their eyes and gave me the look: "You're not the brightest bulb in the chandelier are you?"
Let's study this. Maybe there's a real advantage in being a bit dim sometimes. Everyone's clamoring for more info, more data, crunch the numbers, search the Internet, gather as much knowledge as you can--dazzle them with your intelligence.
Me, myself, being labeled as "simpleminded" once in a while is fine with me. It takes the pressure off. If the people around me think I'm not too bright, no one interrupts me during the day. Nobody wants my advice because they don't value it. Fine with me. Pestering me with questions when I'm trying desperately to get my work done--it can be a real nuisance.
When something breaks down in the office and my coworkers say, "Hey, don't even bother asking her to help troubleshoot that computer problem, she doesn't know a thing." It works for me. Get the idea? Think of all the free time you'd have on your hands. Sounds inviting, doesn't it?
Thanks for reading with me. It's so good to read with friends.

Suzanne,
Just joined your club this week and already I can tell that I like you. The person who implied you were simple-minded, lacks imagination, tact and is probably not very likable him/herself.
I'm envious of your warm weather. Here in Colorado we need to bundle up to do anything outdoors this time of the year. By the way, as a former fitness instructor, I know that you should never run with ankle weights as it may cause damage to valued ankle, knee, hip joints. Walking is OK, however so keep it up. You've inspired me to give it a try.
Oh, and I like the book, too.

About your "simple-minded" column today? Yeah, right! Like a fox, maybe. There's nothing dim about someone who can carve out a career that touches multitudes every day and puts interesting books in front of them to sample. For a reader and writer (which you obviously are), could there be a more brilliant career???

Have been a Read it First reader for about a year and loved it...then discovered your other lists...including Romance and Fiction. I can't resist a paperback romance...I love to read all fiction but will put it down for romance...so far I've bought 2 of them. Like Irresistible Bachelor as well...Jan
